Midwest Foodie Blog: Income Report

I’ve been exploring my interest in practical applications of business plans. As an example, Kylie was super gracious and shared the finances and work related to her successful food blog I have followed for about a year. As she says she has “poured her heart and soul” into it! She gives a great summary of her goals over the last couple of years, which are numerous and comprehensive. Along with array of apps she uses to support her blog. Check it out! As it is a bit more to list than my usual five sentence summaries.

Volunteering@Portland5: Sugar Skull

In the late morning, the 4th and 5th graders from most of Portland were welcomed to the Newmark Theater for a production of Sugar Skull! To quote the Portland5.com, “… a joyous, heartfelt adventure that delves into the rich, tuneful traditions of Día de los Muertos. Featuring a company of gifted musicians and dancers, this colorful stage production is the perfect fall entertainment for youth and family audiences alike.”

The kids loved the show and followed closely along as they were captivated by the actors. Experiencing their enthusiasm and awe of the theater was more fun than I expected!

TED Talk: Asking For Help is a Strength, not a Weakness

Michele Sullivan’s talk on, “Asking for Help is a Strength, Not a Weakness” was a bit more than I was expecting, I’m pleased to share her message:
– No one can walk in someone else’s shoes
– Need to find a new way of giving of ourselves
– All of us are more than whom we appear to be
– While there is a lot of discussion of having support systems for ourselves
– We must be a role in other’s support systems, as life silos us off separately
– Can be done using compassion, courage & understanding for ourselves & others

SpotHero: Selling Underutilized Parking Spaces

Sometimes I’m astounded there is so much money in every day applications of high tech. SpotHero is helping parking lot owners sell spots to park the car as Kyle Wiggers August 22, 2019 column in Venturebeat.com explains “SpotHero raises $50 million to bring underutilized parking spaces online

“Chicago, Illinois-based parking inventory and booking startup SpotHero today announced that it has secured $50 million in a series D round led by Macquarie Capital, bringing its total raised to date to $118 million. CEO and cofounder Mark Lawrence said the round, which saw participation from investors Union Grove Venture Partners, Insight Venture Partners, Global Founders Capital, OCA Ventures, AutoTech Ventures, and others, will strengthen the company’s partnerships with mobility companies and deepen its technology stack.

The fiscal vote of confidence comes after a year during which SpotHero reached half a billion dollars in all-time sales and 900-plus distribution partnerships and integrations…”
